What I bought Shop #1

My appliances have arrived, so time to shop, right after work. I didn’t take an inventory, there was a winter storm predicted so , many items were out across the aisles by the time I got to the market so I had to make do with what I could get. Normally I shop sales, have found the best value for price, and know where they hide the goodies.

I did find some of my basic items -whole chickens are a must, the ends bacon will amaze. Some things a doubled up on, and some that I had will be reserved for a ‘treat’ day. I didn’t find any actual loaf bread, but found a stack of English muffins, and doubled up on tortillas, and found some refried beans on sale – that will work out.

I was glad to have moved my dry goods, as flour, oats, sugars, baking powder/soda, pasta, and canned tomato products. There wasn’t a lot of meats, other than those that need work and/or were “different”. So I adjusted, and we will play.

Proteins, whole milk, 2 whole chickens, peanut butter, full fat plain yogurt, 3 pounds of “ends and pieces” bacon, some weird ground “bork” (seriously that is what they call it on the receipt) a mix of beef and pork, mexican chorizo, italian sausage, a block of colby-jack cheese, two cans of refried beans, a dozen eggs (seriously the “dozens” were all gone but there was plenty of the half dozen cartons) and butter.
Starches more flour tortillas (kinda wish I would have grabbed some corn, maybe on my one trip out this month), a dozen english muffins, couple pounds of potatoes, two sweet potatoes, more garlic (can’t have too much) more onions.
ies – romaine, bunch of radishes, more broccoli, bunch of spinach, head of cabbage, head of cauliflower, more celery, carrots, fresh ginger, zucchini and yellow squash, mushrooms, and fresh basil … oh and that second block of parmesean.
s – can of coconut milk (oddly hard to find had to crawl under the bottom and get the last one), apricot/pineapple preserves, strawberry preserves, two HUGE cans of tomatoes (see coconut milk above) another jar of salsa (only the hot left, so might need those tomatoes to take it down), a trail mix that I have never used before but needed some sort of raisins/nuts/dried fruit and they were wiped out, a bag of oranges (6), and a bag of apples (9), two lemons, five bananas and a four pack of pineapple chunks in juice. …

So how will I use, prep, hold all this? Can I last a month or more? I will probably be able to get out now and again, but not sure what I will find, mostly will be in pursuit of fresh veggies, fruits, and dairy.

Went for a walk and stopped in to the neighborhood market, and scored some bread, and a couple other items. Sadly he said he would close for the duration.

Bread, ground bison (it will balance the fattier meats well) and some corn tortillas.

I have always cooked, I was that person who could make a meal from an empty fridge. I have lived alone and with large and small families, I have cooked for camps on wood stoves, and in professional kitchens. I have lived and worked all over the west from Montana, to Seattle to Arizona to San Diego. I have traveled, maybe not 'all over the world', yet, and have collected tastes recipes and techniques everywhere, and every one I meet.

Long time supporter, and thought I’d drop a comment.

Your wordpress site is very sleek – hope you don’t mind me asking what theme you’re using?

(and don’t mind if I steal it? :P)

I just launched my site –also built in wordpress
like yours– but the theme slows (!) the site down quite a bit.

In case you have a minute, you can find it by searching for “royal cbd” on Google
(would appreciate any feedback) – it’s still in the works.

Keep up the good work– and hope you all take care of yourself during the coronavirus scare!

Hi Justin, thanks for the support. I am using the Saaya blog theme. I was hoping to have things a bit more polished before going live, but I feel that this information is needed at this time in our world.
