Getting started

I have been planning to do a blog for a while now. Focused on real food, unprocessed, single ingredient cooking with minimal waste, budget conscience and environmentally conscience.

Focused more towards one or two person households. Thirty percent of US households are one person, and another 35% are two person. Chances are that you have, or will at some point be living either alone or as a couple.

So with the current environment of the corona virus fears, and the odds of being isolated, and buying up mass quantities of foods that will either be highly process and loaded with preservatives and lacking in nutrition, or will be over purchased and wasted I decided that instead of waiting until I had all the bells and whistles in place, I would go ahead at start with the basics and perhaps help some people out in a time when it is really needed. One of the main parts of staying healthy besides social distancing is to eat as healthy as you can to keep your strength and immunity up.

Don’t expect fancy graphics, or professional photos at this point – I will get to that once the current crisis has passed. I will just tell you what I had, what I bought, how I used it, how I made it last, how I used everything I bought, and how much variety we had.

I have always cooked, I was that person who could make a meal from an empty fridge. I have lived alone and with large and small families, I have cooked for camps on wood stoves, and in professional kitchens. I have lived and worked all over the west from Montana, to Seattle to Arizona to San Diego. I have traveled, maybe not 'all over the world', yet, and have collected tastes recipes and techniques everywhere, and every one I meet.

Well it’s about time somebody addressed the “mega recipe” mentality. Good for you. I’m single, and tired of throwing away parts unused, just didn’t know what to do with them or how to use them. Can’t wait to see your future recipies and advice.

Thank you Norm for your kind comment. I feel that there is an unaddressed need for more recipes and techniques for single people who enjoy good food but can’t afford to waste it.
