Granola banana & milk

Granola is definitely a ‘go to’ for me. It is cheap and easy to make – as opposed to purchasing pre-made which is shockingly expensive when you realize that old fashioned rolled oats – the main ingredient – is usually about .99 per pound, and a pound will make about 20 servings of granola. Plus all the other uses for oats themselves. Surprisingly high in protein (5g) and fiber. It is very filling for the price as well.

I went to get a banana and noticed one had split near the stem, so need to use that up. It is good to check your produce now and then, often you can catch something like this and use it right away and not have it go bad once the natural packaging is damaged.
My sad banana, 1/4 cup homemade granola, some strawberry jam, and milk.
Slice the banana into a cereal bowl – or soup bowl or salad bowl … really what is the difference.
Add a dollop of jam of your choice. I used strawberry this time – but the pineapple apricot would be great too. Jam as a sweetener is often overlooked. Instead of going straight sugar, or even honey consider jam or fruit preserves, sweet, fruity, flavor.
Strawberry banana is classic.
1/4 cup granola.
And milk. Now that is cheaper and healthier than your processed packaged breakfast cereal.

I have always cooked, I was that person who could make a meal from an empty fridge. I have lived alone and with large and small families, I have cooked for camps on wood stoves, and in professional kitchens. I have lived and worked all over the west from Montana, to Seattle to Arizona to San Diego. I have traveled, maybe not 'all over the world', yet, and have collected tastes recipes and techniques everywhere, and every one I meet.
